10 Pokémon cards buyers overpaid for in 2026
Published
Anyone who bought these cards at their recent high paid more than the market pays now. Here are ten Pokémon cards whose market price dropped the most in summer and autumn 2026, based on TCGplayer's own price reports.
Data as of 6 October 2026. Prices are TCGplayer Market Prices for Near Mint copies, taken from TCGplayer's monthly price-trend reports (cards with at least ten sales in the period). Card prices change every day: by the time you read this, they will be different. This is not a list of sales on any specific live stream, and it is not investment advice.

Also notable: the blue chips moved too
Even cards seen as safe lost value. Umbreon ex 161/131 from Prismatic Evolutions dropped $119 to $1,323 between 7 September and 6 October, after a wave of reprints. Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat fell $69 to $696 in the same month, its first big monthly drop of the year. Umbreon VMAX (Alternate Art) from Evolving Skies dropped $83 to $2,286.
Why these cards fell
- The modern market turned. According to TCGplayer, modern singles started falling around July 2026 after months of gains, as reprints caught up with demand.
- Staggered releases. Ascended Heroes came out in waves through the year, and each wave added supply of its chase cards. Six of the ten cards on this list are from that set.
- Attention moved on. TCGplayer links part of the September drops to buyers turning to the 30th Celebration set.
- Reprints. New print runs of Prismatic Evolutions lowered both sealed and single prices.
What this means on a live stream
On a stream, a chase card from a hyped set feels like it can only go up. These numbers show the opposite: within weeks, the market price of popular cards can fall 20 to 40 percent. If you pay the hype price, you are paying the top of the market.
- Check today's market price, not what the card was worth when the set came out. See how TCGplayer market price works.
- Be extra careful with sets that are still being printed or released in waves: supply keeps coming.
- Look at the trend, not just the price. A card that dropped 30% last month is not automatically a bargain.
- Set your maximum before the card comes up. Our checklist for not overpaying on Whatnot helps.
TCG Scanner is being built to show the current market price per condition of the card on your stream, so you see today's value, not last month's hype. The Pokémon beta starts in December 2026 and the full launch is planned for January 2027. See the Pokémon price checker.
